Google SEO Optimisation
Google optimisation for page elements
This article serves as a guide for google SEO optimisation for page elements. There are many aspects to a good google SEO optimisation strategy, this article deals with the individual page elements. I’ve tried to keep the explanation as simple as possible!
Page Titles and Page Descriptions (metatags)
- Page titles, page description - these are set within the page code, and both need to be relevant to the page content. Make them different and relevant for each page, otherwise you will be penalised within Google and all the major search engines.
Page Headers
- These are known as the ‘H1’ and ‘H2’ tags. These are very much like headlines in a newspaper. An analogy would be that they draw Googles attention to the content on the page, much the same way as they do the human eye, and give a concise summary of the page contents.
Each header should contain the key phrase you are optimising the site for. For example, you're a specialist florist, and your chosen key phrase is 'rare orchids in London'
Your H1 header is going to be along the lines of 'Rare Orchids in London'
Your H2 header could be 'Rare Orchids in London - Delivered fresh to your door!'
Body Text
This is the main text of the page. This needs to reflect the chosen key phrase in a number of places; it should make up 3% of the body text. Google comes in, has a look, and notices 'rare orchids in London' has been used a number of times. Therefore, it assumes that this is what the subject matter deals with. That percentage has to be watch; for example, if Google stepped in and spotted 40% of the text was loaded with a key phrase, it thinks "SPAM!". You'll either be demoted or removed altogether!
Summary of Google SEO optimisation for the page
There are a hundred and one different factors that Google uses to determine your page rank. As long as you've followed steps to ensure that your page elements are all in order, you'll have a great head-start!
